About ATEN IP Attorneys

●Our New Name “ATEN IP Attorneys”
We are pleased to announce that we have changed our firm name from “Kaji, Suhara & Associates” to “ATEN IP Attorneys”.
ATEN is the sun god of Egyptian mythology. He is regarded as the one and only absolute god who created the universe, maintains its order, and imparts life to all things. ATEN is also regarded as the god of peace and grace.
In honor of the Sun God, we help our clients by protecting their inventions, ideas, designs, trademarks and other intangible property created by them as patents, utility models, designs, trademarks and other intellectual property rights, and further help our clients to succeed in their business by enabling them to utilize their intellectual property rights in a valuable way.
●Doing Best for Your Success
In these days of widespread social unrest and major changes in the socio-economic situation, although the new coronavirus infection has seemingly settled down, intellectual property is playing an increasingly important role in business management during creation of innovation.
Kaji, Suhara and Associates, our predecessor firm, has been an international and comprehensive patent law firm offering top-class services related to intellectual property rights, including patent rights, utility model rights, design rights, and trademark rights. Since its foundation in 1988, we have served numerous domestic and foreign clients ranging from individuals and small to medium-sized companies to large corporations.
We are pleased to announce that we have changed the name of our office to “ATEN IP Attorneys” and have established a new structure. We would like to express our gratitude for your patronage of ” Kaji, Suhara and Associates” over the years, and we are committed to further improve our services by working together as a team to live up to the trust of our clients based on the knowledge and experience we have accumulated in the field of intellectual property.
We have been and will continue to grow into a better firm to contribute to the development of the social economy by helping to create innovation through meeting to the changing needs of our clients.

Our Policy for Sustainability

ATEN aims to be “a patent firm that provides legal support in compliance with domestic and international laws and conventions in order to create new technological and corporate value in Japan and abroad”, and we conduct our business activities with respect for the trust of our clients and business partners.

In the course of our business activities, we will actively promote diversity, including the promotion of women’s activities and support for the balancing of family life and work, and utilization of telework, with the aim of realizing a better and more sustainable society.

We hope that our business partners will understand this policy and fulfil their social responsibility together with us.

Our Commitment

01. Substantial interview with inventors

An interview is one of the most effective ways of accurately and efficiently understanding the intention of an inventor. We interview inventors not only to understand their thinking, but also to help elevating the inventor’s conceived creation into an ‘invention’ with a broader scope from a legal and technical point of view.
We can also give you practical/strategic advice on how to proceed with your IP application in line with your business strategy.

02. Focus on staff training

Learning how to perform the core tasks of an IP law firm, such as drafting application documents and OA (office action), at the level of quality for a full-fledged staff, is a long process. We therefore spend a substantial amount of time on the training of each of our new staff members. It is our belief that such a staff training program, though it requires a considerable amount of time and energy, is indispensable for maintaining our quality standards and our reputation with our clients.
Our firm also holds regular in-house workshops, run by case law study groups or by attorneys visiting from our overseas associates, to keep our staff members updated on the latest developments in IP law.

03. Support for Small and medium-sized companies

To date, nearly 90% of Japanese inventions are made by researchers from large companies, which often have their own IP departments responsible for the management and protection of their intellectual property rights.
This, however, is not the case for many small and medium-sized companies. Due to a lack of IP personnel, valuable inventions made by these small and medium-sized companies may be left unprotected.
Our professionals are fully aware of the needs of companies in this situation and provide comprehensive support through the entire procedure of rights protection from discovery of invention, granting and utilization of IP rights.
